Title Will Be Tough - Cech

Cech’s Chelsea secured the title in 2005 and 2006, but have lost out to Manchester United in the past two seasons, taking the title race down to the last day in May of this year.

And goalkeeper Cech has said whoever wins this year’s title will have to earn it with the all-round quality on show at a higher level than ever before.

The Czech Republic international also feels that the level of quality throughout the league will only continue to increase with the high levels of foreign investment.

"Look at how almost all clubs have spent big money on new players," Cech stressed to Pravo.

"Not only the top four, but also the newcomers. Therefore, the case of last season's Derby County will not be repeated meaning it will be tough for whoever wins the title," he said.

While expecting a tough ride in their bid to regain the Premier League, Cech hinted that his side’s main aim is to win the elusive Champions League trophy after coming so close in years gone by.

The Blues were one successful penalty away from securing May’s title in Moscow and have also lost out twice to Liverpool in the semi-final stages. It is also arguable that they should have won the 2004 title, where they lost to AS Monaco, again in the last four.

"As last season's finalists, we should advance without problems through the group and then take it from there," Cech added.

"We have only the highest targets. We want a reach the final again and win the trophy at long last," he concluded.
