Italy Suffer Del Piero Injury Blow

La Nazionale travel to Lanarca this weekend for their first Group 8 match but the Juventus man may not be available for selection.

Del Piero was forced to skip training on Thursday afternoon at Coverciano and he underwent examinations this evening.

The doctor’s report revealed that Pinturicchio has a muscular strain which is the result of a previous injury which has now been aggravated.

It is highly unlikely that the striker will play against Cyprus following these results as Marcello Lippi will not want to risk his man to further injuries.

The Azzurri medical staff will keep a close eye on Del Piero and he is set to undergo further examinations on Friday morning.

Thankfully, there were no such problems for the rest of the side as everyone else trained as normal.

The coach tried different attacking options with Alberto Gilardino and Luca Toni alternating with Vincenzo Iaquinta and Antonio Di Natale.

Del Piero’s injury is not the news Italy or Juventus wanted to hear. The Bianconeri will be involved in the Champions League in two weeks and they need their striker to be fully fit.
