Massive Wages Tempted Robinho

The Brazil international had stated in a press conference on Sunday that he was intent on a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea but, as a move to west London faltered, the Abu Dhabi Group Investment and Development Limited-backed outfit stepped in with a £32.5 million offer.

The rapid-speed at which a fee was agreed left the 24-year old with little time to contemplate a switch away from Real Madrid, but the £250,000 a week pay packet offered went some way to tempting him.

Robinho is likely to be the first of many big-money buys to head to Eastland, with the likes of Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo, AC Milan midfielder Kaka and former team-mate Ruud Van Nistelrooy all catching the eye of the free-spending United Arab Emirates nationals.

And with an estimated collective wealth of $1 trillion, even The Blues' owner, Roman Abramovich, will struggle to compete as Thaksin Shinawatra's successors look to use their immense spending-power to establish City as the world's most successful team.
