Alvaro Recoba In Shock Panionios Move?

As expected, 'El Chino' left Inter at the end of the 2007-08 campaign after his loan spell at Torino.

Having already stated that he would not seek renewal with the nerazzurri he is not on the look-out for a new club. Blackburn Rovers appeared to be leading the chase, but Athenian side Panionios have now stepped in with an audacious bid.

The red-and-blues, competitiors in last season's UEFA Cup group stage, are prepared to offer generous terms to the former Nacional and Danubio forward as they look to pull off the biggest transfer in their history.

Having managed 50 goals for Inter, Recoba commands a high wage bill: it is thought that Panionios will need to pay €5m to €6m in wages over the two years he is expected to remain in Nea Smyrni.

Recoba, born in Montevideo, has 69 caps for his country.
