De Laurentiis Reacts To UEFA Cup draw

The draw was not kind to Napoli as they face the Portuguese giants in the first round of the competition, but De Laurentiis believes there is no point in crying over spilled milk and he insists it will be a positive challenge for his Azzurri team.

“Of course, I can’t say that I would have liked to have been paired with Benfica but the draws are draws,” De Laurentiis told Tuttonapoli.net.

“We are a strong team, always developing and we must never think that we are stronger by facing the weaker because only cowards do that.

“We have a tough league ahead of us and we have Roma and Fiorentina before the Benfica game.

“I can’t make any promises but I can assure that we have a team who will fight. It’s always important to face the big teams early that way we can test ourselves but we have to remain calm and tranquil.”

The Partenopei qualified for the first round of the UEFA Cup after beating Albanian side Vllaznia 8-0 on aggregate.

They will qualify for the group stages if they beat Benfica over the two-legged knock out round.
