Sobis Leaves Betis; Al-Jazira Next?

23-year-old Sobis only seldom managed to recreate with the Béticos the form that saw him become such a hit with former club Internacional.

During his two seasons in Triana he hit just eight goals despite mainly being deployed up front, and while his wing play was sometimes fine to watch, club president Ruiz de Lopera lacked any patience with his big-money acquisition.

Thus it was stated earlier in summer that Rafael could seek his fortune elsewhere - for a price.

A bid from Newcastle United was apparently rejected back in July, with the verdiblancos holding out for more.

However if Marca is to be believed then it is a fee of around €6.8m that has now coaxed the Béticos into parting with Sóbis.

Al-Jazira, then, are set to take possession of the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist before the transfer window closes tonight.

Whether Betis use the proceeds to land Sergio García of Real Zaragoza remains to be seen.
