Motta Left Facing Unemployment
The former Barcelona midfielder held talks with both Portsmouth and Racing Santander about a late move, but he failed to pass either club's medical exam.
On July 1, Atlético did put a new contract on the table that specified that he would be paid as he played, after Motta has endured a year almost completely in the treatment room.
Having rejected idea, the 26-year-old believed that he would be able to secure a move to another team that would pay him a fixed salary however many games he played.
Pompey and Racing were unimpressed by the recovery made on his troublesome knee and decided not to pursue their interest and now Motta is without a club.
The Brazilian-born player still has access to Atlético's facilities as he looks to completely overcome the physical problems that have troubled him for several seasons.
After rising through the ranks at Camp Nou, Motta made his Barça debut in 2001 but always looked out of place in a slick Blaugrana side under Frank Rijkaard.
Last summer, the Catalan outfit cut their losses because of his injuries and let him move to Atlético for only €2m when they had originally wanted €6m.
But the transfer failed to see his fortunes improve and last term, Motta played just six games for Los Colchoneros.
