'We Are The New Chelsea', Proclaims Garrido

The Brazilian international forward incredibly signed for City on deadline day in a British record £32.5 million deal after the 24-year-old had seemed destined for a move to Stamford Bridge throughout the latter part of the summer.

And Spanish defender Garrido, although admitting he is still in a state of disbelief after his team purchased the player, has issued a clear message to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich that City, backed by their new Asian owner, are set to put them in the shade.

“The previous owner [Thaksin Shinawatra] tried unsuccessfully to bring Ronaldinho which gave an idea that his claims of assembling a big team were not just fireworks,” the full-back told Setanta Sports.

“But to put an offer of €42 million on the table for a player from Madrid…Well! The message is a warning to Roman Abramovich. We are the new Chelsea. Let's put them in the shade.”

Garrido is currently behind Englishman Michael Ball in the left-back pecking order at the City of Manchester Stadium, but is clearly excited by his side’s transfer activities. The former Real Sociedad man, a £1.5 million Sven Goran Eriksson signing last summer, may have more to say in January with a list including a number of big name transfer targets already being drawn up by club manager Mark Hughes.
