Chiellini badly twisted his knee during the friendly defeat to Milan in the Berlusconi Trophy at San Siro on August 17, and there had been serious fears that he had suffered a cruciate ligament injury that could have ruled him out for six months or more.
The injury proved not to be serious, although he was still expected to be out with a knee sprain for at least six weeks.
Chiellini’s recovery has been miraculously fast though, and he is already back in training, taking part in an intense session this morning with those not on international duty.
The 24-year-old also played in a training match within ranks, along with Marco Marchionni, David Trezeguet and Cristiano Zanetti, who are all recovering from injury too.
The latter three all scored, and there is now every chance that they could be in contention for next week’s Serie A clash with Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico.
