Laporta Vetoed Eto'o-Robinho Swap
The Blaugrana's new coach, Pep Guardiola, is a big fan of the Brazilian and after he jokingly mentioned to the club's hierarchy about making a move, it was looked in to.
While Barça and Madrid have a pact not to make moves for each others players an exchange deal could have been put forward and it is believed that Madrid may have reacted positively.
Eto'o is now settled back at Camp Nou after impressing during pre-season, but before he returned from his summer holiday it was firmly believed that he would be moved on.
That was when Guardiola was asked which players he would like and Robinho's name was mentioned because the Catalan outfit knew that Brazilian was being disgruntled at the Bernabéu.
Laporta is a staunch supporter of Eto'o and his ability and was the key man behind persuading the player to stay and settle down this summer and persuaded the coaching staff to give him another chance.
The president heard about the provisional plan for a swap deal, which was one of many scenarios surrounding the Cameroonian international this summer, and told the coaches to forget it.
Technical director Txiki Begiristain was adamant that Eto'o would be leaving, but even he was won over by the player's commitment and attitude when he reported back for pre-season training.
