Brazilian football isn't exactly going through a glorious period. The umpteenth failure at the Olympics, where they only managed a bronze medal, and a number of stuttering performances in recent matches, have turned on the heat on Carlos Dunga's troops ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Chile and Bolivia.
If that weren't enough, Brazilian president Lula has stated that he thinks Argentinean star Lionel Messi is currently the world's best player, saying the 21-year-old runs more and works harder than the average Brazilian player. Unsurprisingly, this has not gone down well with Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar of Inter, who hit back at the politician.
"Lulu said that his favorite is Messi, that he runs back to win the ball back when he loses it while us Brazilians don't," he said. "In that case I suggest he move to Argentina, maybe he can improve how things are going there."
This bitter response from the Inter keeper once again shows how intense the rivalry is between Brazilians and Argentineans. However, perhaps on this occasion Julio Cesar took it one step too far and he will be happy he is not living in Brazil at the moment...
