Sobis was identified as surplus to requirements at the Ruiz de Lopera.
His move to the United Arab Emirates appeared to have collapsed – only for it to be resurrected after Al Jazira agreed to the 10 million euro valuation on Sobis.
Sobis arrived in Abu Dhabi on Thursday to undergo a medical.
According to Al Jazira sources, the club was willing to break the bank for the player, with the transfer fee setting a new UAE League record.
Sobis has passed his medical and will sign a five-year contract on Friday.
It is believed Al Jazira’s coach Abel Braga was instrumental in securing Sobis, having coached Brazilian side Internacional, the club Sobis started his professional career in 2004. He moved to Real Betis two years later.
The 23-year-old recently clinched a bronze medal with Brazil at the Beijing Olympics and played 10 times for the senior team.
The signing of Sobis will add to a strong Brazilian contingent at Al Jazira, with Braga snapping up Fernando Baiano from Spanish side Real Murcia on a season-long loan.
Another Brazilian, Atletico Madrid defender Fabiano Eller, is expected to ink a deal next week.
