Henry Out Of Favour With Barça Fans

When Thierry Henry arrived at the Camp Nou for €24 million around this time last year, many fans believed that he was to be the final piece that would complete Barcelona’s attacking jigsaw.

Forming a forward line that would consist of Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto’o and the Frenchman himself, on paper, it looked like an unstoppable force. But on the field, that wasn’t to be.

‘Titi’ failed to impress in his first season with the Blaugrana, despite complaints of being played out of position and being summoned to action while unfit. Although the Catalan giants are willing to give him more time, it appears that the fans have given up on the 31 year old.

According to a poll on MundoDeportivo.es, Barça fans have voted Andrés Iniesta as their first choice to occupy the left flank. They have also placed young Bojan Krkic ahead of Henry in the pecking order to partner Samuel Eto’o in the central forward role. With Lionel Messi the overwhelming favourite on the right wing, the former Arsenal man has been left without a position to fill.

The fans also voiced their scepticism with the squad after the club failed in their attempt to land Andrei Arshavin, Diego Capel or David Silva to bolster the left side of midfield.

Their concern has been made worse after the Blaugrana stumbled to successive 1-0 defeats, first against Wisla Krakow and then against Numancia last weekend. Both games highlighted Barça’s attacking dominance but it also emphasized their inability to finish off chances.
