Argentinos Juniors put on a brilliant display at the Nuevo Gasometro, and were well worth their comfortable 2-0 victory over a San Lorenzo side who have felt the effects of a depleted squad.
Goals from Nicolas Pavlovich (38') and Gabriel Hauche (57') gave Nestor Gorosito's side a valuable victory, that was quite unexpected considering they could only afford a goalless draw in La Paternal in the first leg.
Despite heavy pressure from San Lorenzo early on, Argentinos created the better goal scoring opportunities, and finally took advantage of them with Pavlovich's goal.
After the break the same was to follow, San Lorenzo pressed, but Argentinos replied with their second of the night. A sensational attacking move culminated with Hauche's brilliant finish.
From that instance, Miguel Angel Russo's side were in need of three goals, but it was Argentinos who looked the more likely side to extend their lead late on in the match.
The side from La Paternal will meet San Luis of Mexico, or Deportivo Quito of Ecuador in the following round of the Copa Sudamericana. Their performance tonight suggests that they are more than capable of beating either of these two sides.
In the earlier game, Olimpia lost 1-0 against Blooming in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, but still went through after having won the tie 4-3 on aggregate over the two legs.
