Viola Make Final Burdisso Assault

The Viola have been extremely active in the summer transfer market, making a whole host of notable signings, including the likes of Comotto (Torino), Jovetic (Partizan), Melo (Almeria), Gilardino (Milan), Vargas (Catania), Jefferson (Parana Clube), Storari (Milan), Zauri (Lazio), and Almiron (Juventus).Ideally, the club would still like to sign a quality centre back to partner Alessandro Gamberini, and for most of the summer the objective had been Inter stopper Burdisso. The Argentine had an error prone campaign last season and, when everyone is fit, is well down in the defensive pecking order, behind the likes of Ivan Cordoba, Walter Samuel, Marco Materazzi, and Christian Chivu. However, he has been relied on heavily recently as all these players above are currently injured. The 27-year-old has been excellent at the heart of the defence, with Inter coach Jose Mourinho recently labelling him as the side’s best player in pre-season. Nevertheless, Firenzeviola.it claims that Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino is to make one final push in the last few days of the window in the hope of capturing Burdisso. With so many injuries in the Inter defence, it has to be said that a transfer seems unlikely at this stage, although there is a possibility of a deal being done in January.
