Major League Soccer Roundup, Aug. 23

Columbus' veteran Argentine playmaker Guillermo Barros Schelotto pulled the strings in the Crew's victory, scoring one goal and setting up the other two.
The home team went ahead in the 15th minute when a Schelotto freekick found center back Chad Marshall, who headed the opener.
Schelotto made it 2-0 from the penalty spot ten minutes later, and set up the third goal in the 55th minute, playing the initial pass that led to striker Brad Evans heading home.
Columbus moved ahead of New England on goal difference to top the East, while consecutive losses had dropped former West leader Salt Lake to five points off the pace in their conference.
New England slipped to second after only managing a draw away at Toronto.
U.S. international forward Taylor Twellman headed the Revolution ahead in the 36th minute, but striker Chad Barrett put the Canadians on level terms the 66th minute when he collected a pass in the area and turned to fire home a left-foot strike.
Toronto has gone six home games without a win.
D.C. United dominated Colorado for a comfortable win.
Joe Vide put the Washington team ahead in impressive style, surging forward from midfield and unleashing a 20-yard strike just before halftime.
The Rapids had their opportunities to equalize, but United secured the win with two goals in the last ten minutes. An unmarked Santino Quaranta ran onto a pass and curled a shot inside the far post to make it 2-0, and it was 3-0 in the 87th minute when substitute Quavas Kirk pounced on a spilt ball by the goalkeeper to find the net.
Colorado has gone seven straight road games without a win and haven't won at D.C. since 1999.
At Kansas City, captain Jimmy Conrad scored two minutes into stoppage time to salvage a home draw for the Wizards against 10-man Dallas.
Dallas had gone ahead in the seventh minute with a dipping 30-yard strike by Brazilian fullback Andre Rocha. The Texan team looked to have done enough to secure the three points when it held on - despite being a man down following a sending-off with 27 minutes to play - until stoppage time.
However Kansas City dramatically drew level when Josh Wolff played a low cross into the area and center back Conrad made his way in front of two defenders to slide in and knock the ball over the goalkeeper. The goal meant the Wizards had not lost at home in almost ten weeks.
In a battle of the bottom two sides in the West, Chivas was held scoreless at home by San Jose.
Chivas is winless in its past six games, but remains only three points off Real Salt Lake - second in the West - and two points ahead of the Earthquakes in the tight conference.
