After observing and analyzing his squad long and hard throughout the pre-season campaign, Valencia técnico Unai Emery has established and finalized what he considers his four main players at the heart of midfield.
David Albelda, Rubén Baraja, Manuel Fernandes and Edu have all been given the thumbs up to become the hear of soul of the Ché midfield, leaving youngsters Hedwiges Maduro and Éver Banega as surplus to requirements.
The coach, however, did reveal that he considers Banega a prospect for the future. He is reluctant to tie down the 20 year Argentinean at the Mestalla this term, knowing full well that he would have very little playing time.
Instead, he wants the young midfielder to go out on loan – most likely to Atlético Madrid at this stage – in order to gain more experience and the move to Los Colchoneros is expected to be finalized when the player returns from the Olympic games in Beijing.
