Maresca: We Need A Plan B

The Italian midfielder was frustrated by the 1-1 draw in El Sardinero because the Andalucian outfit had no answer to the home team's tactics.

In pre-season Sevilla played sides that allowed them room to play, but Maresca recognised that will not happen very often in the Spanish league this term.

"We showed during the summer that we ahve a great squad here and that things could go very well, but we played against big teams like Milan, Inter, Arsenal and Villarreal that all let you play" he told Marca.

"In Santander though we had some difficulties. We know we are going to face teams that sit back and close us down quickly and we ned to make changes to cope with that.

"What happened in that game is what will happen against Sporting. They will stop us playing by blocking up the midfield. We know how we like to play, but if cannot keep it short then we have no alternative."

Predictions have been made by some Sevilla players that they can challenge at the top, but Maresca thinks that it is far too early to be considering that.

"The feeling is that we dropped two points, but a draw was fair. Everyone wanted something more, but we do not want to dwell on these things at this stage," he continued.

"Now is not the time to think about whether we can win the league or not. It is good to be ambitious, but it is unthinkable that we will win every game."
